World Social Forum 2005 Registration is Now Open

WSF Bulletin September 24, 2004

Information how to register to World Social Forum 2005

The registrations for WSF 2005, to be held in Porto Alegre (Brazil) from January 26 to 31, 2005, are opened for organisations and individuals. World Social Forum 2005 will be made up of a new perspective and of a new methodology, aims to enlarge the possibility of convergences, increase dialogues during the event and avoid different activities on same issue that have been developed repetitively and without dialogue between them. This initiative starts from the premise that it's not possible build another world without adding efforts, building alternatives and interlinking common actions and campaigns.

The first step in this way is the Thematic Consultation held between may and July, in which 1.800 organisation participated. In this Consultation the organisations described which issues, struggle suggestions, questions, problems, proposals and challenges they intent to discuss during the event. From the answers analysis were defined eleven thematic terrains and three transverse themes.

Understand the new WSF 2005 methodology is fundamental before the registration. As well as in other event editions, to propose a self-organised activity, each organisation must joint one of the eleven thematic terrains. The most important innovation is that all this information will be available by a public consultation, in a manner that the registered organisation contact details, as well as the content of the activities proposals will be accessible. For facilitation this process, the registration website has a search engine, in which organisations dealing with common issues and proposals could reach each other, by keyword or by proposals (of activities and by thematic terrain). In few days, the registration page will still offer an advanced search option.

Consult the proposals public list before registering an activity

Before register a self-organised activity, is very important consult the proposals public list to verify which interlinks have been formed on the same issue, campaign, struggle, question, problem, proposal or challenge. An important mean to help you in this search is the keywords/expressions list, identifying the proposal content.

The self-organised registration form for WSF 2005 has a preliminary list with 117 suggestions of keywords and expressions, defined from Thematic Consultation and from previous WSF editions. To choose a keyword is fundamental for facilitating the meeting between similar proposals. If you think think these keywords/expressions are not appropriated, each organisation has still the option to propose new one, that will be analysed and translated for a possible inclusion in the list.

The aggregation will be encouraged, however, must be done in a voluntary manner. All organisations can guarantee their own activities since the beginning, by a previous registration. Nevertheless, if you choose come together or aggregate your activities with those of other organisations, you can access your form once more and modify, delete or include new proposals until November 10, 2004 (Midnight - Brasilia Time). Please, pay attention to this deadline and, preferably, don't let this task to the last minute, because the registration system usually is very slow the day before WSF, due to many simultaneous access.

Individual and organisations registration deadline is November 30.

Individual registration

In this event edition, the registration will be opened also for individuals who are not attached necessarily to an organisation. People who don't represent any organisation can be registered and can participate in all programme events, but they can't propose activities.

Cultural activities and Press registration

There will be a specific form for cultural activities registration, which will be available in October.

However, all organisations and individuals who deal with this issue must be registered from now. You can address your questions to fsmcultura@forumsocialmundial.org.br. The press registration will be opened around October. Further information send an email to:credenciamento@forumsocialmundial.org.br.
